Traditional Wedding Dresses

The white wedding dress became popular in the last hundred years with the influence of America in the Philippines. Before that, the brides wore their festive color or stylish black best dresses for the wedding. Orange blossom bouquets and adornments were a necessity during the turn of the last century.

Shalwar-Kameez (urdu/farsi: شلوار قمیض), is one of the traditional dresses that are traditionally worn by the women in Pakistan and Bangladesh. But since the 20th century, women in Southern India have also copied this dress complementing the Sari, the traditional dress of India. The outfit comprises of a kameez (shirt), salwar (trousers) and dupatta/chunni (stole).

Traditional Hawaiian wedding dress are called holoku and were originally adapted from missionary outfits with long sleeves, loose fitting, high neck, and worn with grace and style.
