Filipino Wedding Dress

Philippines Wedding Dress

The white wedding dress became popular in the last hundred years with the influence of America in the Philippines. Before that, the brides wore their festive color or stylish black best dresses for the wedding. Orange blossom bouquets and adornments were a necessity during the turn of the last century.

Barong Tagalog Wedding Dress

The Barong Tagalog is still a staple in Filipino weddings. The Barong is a purely formal embroidered shirt worn by men and women in the Philippines. A vest is usually worn with untucked Barong.

Baro't saya Wedding Dress

The traditional clothing of filipino women, called baro't saya, rarely accompanies the barong during wedding ceremonies, as most brides today prefer western wedding dresses rather than traditional wedding costumes. For brides who prefer to follow tradition, some modern Filipino designers create beautiful baro't saya inspired wedding dresses.
